Obituary - Eleanor Schultz

Eleanor Louise Schultz, the oldest child of Rueben P. and Blanche Weston Galt, was born in Farragut, Iowa on October 20, 1908. Eleanor's younger sibling was Harold Galt. During Eleanor's early childhood, the family spent time in Iowa and LaJara, Colorado farming. Later, Rueben accepted a banking position in Silver City, Iowa where Eleanor spent the remainder of her childhood and graduated from high school in 1925.

After high school, Eleanor attended and graduated from Nebraska University in Lincoln. At that time, kindergarten classes were being established in the Nebraska educational system and Eleanor accepted a position in Franklin, Nebraska as a kindergartern teacher. After a couple of years teaching here, she was offered a higher paying position at a new school in Mitchell, South Dakota and relocated there. During her time in Mitchell, Eleanor married (to Virgil C. Frazier) and had a son, Keith Frazier. (Please note: Elaine, wife of Keith felt the time frame was different as Keith was born in Lincoln, Nebraska)

After leaving South Dakota, Eleanor took a position as office manager for a business association in Des Moines, Iowa. While there she began dating Donald Schultz. The couple were married in Fort Dodge, Iowa on August 4, 1939. Eleanor and Donald moved to Donald's farm west of Macedonia, Iowa that fall. Eleanor and Donald had two sons, Duane, born in 1946 and Randy, born in 1948. Eleanor was an active member of the Macedonia Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star and the Alpha Delta Omega Sorority.

Eleanor did substitute teaching for several area schools. She served as a member of the Macedonia School Board, the Republican Women's Club and did volunteer work on the Board of Elections.

Eleanor, Donald and their sons traveled extensively throughout the 1950's and 60's. During that time, they enjoyed many family vacations in the western and southern United States and into Canada. Eleanor lived on the farm west of Macedonia with Donald until 1998. At that time, due to physical infirmities, she became a resident of the Oakland Manor Nursing Home. Eleanor and Donald had been married 63 years when Eleanor died at the Manor on February 7, 2003. She had attained the age of 94 years, 3 months, and 17 days.
