Obituary of Mrs. Blanche M. Galt

Blanche Merta Weston was born April 18, 1881 at Farragut (Iowa).

Her parents were Julia A. Adams and Elizjah L. Weston. She grew up in the Shenandoah and Clarinda neighborhood and graduated from the Shenandoah high school with the class of 1900. There are still several living members who share a round robin letter regularly. Ida Schultz and Mrs. Chantry of Malvern are also members of this class.

At an early age her main interest was music and she wasactive in piano and vocal activities during high school. She then attended Western Norman College at Shenandoah were she continued her musical studies. She gave vocal and piano lessons from then on most of her life.

She was married to Reuben P. Galt on May 4, 1904, at Shenandoah. Two children were born to them.

In 1917, the family moved to Silver City, where Mr. Galt was connected with the local bank until his retirement in July of 1953.

Mrs. Galt was an active member of the Silver City United Methodist Church, serving in many different offices and helping with the music for church and community affairs.

She was affiliated with the Order of the Eastern Star and Chapter BG of the PEO at Glenwood.

Mr. and Mrs. Galt observed their 50th wedding anniversary in May, 1954.

Following her husband's death in 1955, Mrs. Galt moved to Florida and lived with her sister until 1963, when she returned to Iowa to be near her daughter.

Following a brief illness she died the evening of March 4, at the age of 89 years.

She is survived by her daughter Eleanor, now Mrs. Donald Schultz of Macedonia, her sister, Mrs. Marie Flenner of Clermont, Florida, 4 grand-children and 8 great grandchildren. Her husband and son Harold, proceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. from the Mansfield's Funeral Home in Malvern, conducted by the Rev. E. LeRoy Pullman assisted by the Rev. F. G. Barnes, both of Silver City.

Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Charles Stevens, organist, and soloist, Richard Clipson II, who sang "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Harvey Deitchler attended the registry book, C. C. Clipson, J. H. Kruse, Roy Henderson, Rew Burgoin, Kenneth Carlson and Floyd Lawson served as pall bearers. Grace McNay, Ona McNay and Mary Clipson were flower ladies.

Interment was made in the Silver City cemetery.
