John R. Frazier

Again it becomes the sad duty of the editor of the Times to chronicle the death of one of this sections oldest and most highly respected citizens, in the person of John R. Frazier, who died at his home north of Silver City, on the second day of January, 1899.

John R. Frazier was born in Fulton county, Indiana, on the 20th day of December 1821, making him at the time of his death a little over 77 years of age. In the year of 1840, he moved to Ohio and where he was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Miss Julia Thompson on March 30th, 1848.

Seven children were born to bless this happy union, six of whom survive the father. Brother Frazier was converted with the M. E. church when 21 years of age, and has remained a faithful and earnest member of that church. He held an official relation with the church and was steward for fourteen years, and also trustee.

His was that of an active life, until he became so afflicted that he was unable to work no more, and when the summons came he was ready to depart this life and quietly passed to his eternal rest.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, in Silver City, on Wednesday, January 4th, conducted by Rev. Fawcett, assisted by Rev. Yule, of the Baptist church, and the remains were laid to their last resting place in the Silver City cemetery.

According to the 1870 Census, John was living in Dallas County, Marion, Iowa as a farmer.
