Early in life Mrs. Derby accepted Christ as her Savior and guide of her life. The grace and strength that she received through her faith in such a wonderful Savior has been a great comfort to her in all times of sorrow and loss. She strongly desired that her life might be a steadfast witness to the saving and keeping power of the Christian religion.
Her chief interest in life centered in her home, her church, her Royal Neighbor's Lodge (The Sweet Brier Camp) and her community. She was a faithful wife and a devoted mother. The treasured memories of her life and service to her family will ever remain in the hearts of her children. Her name will be associated by many people of the community with her flowers, her lilac bushes, her crocheting and her quilts.
Mrs. Derby is survived by her five children. They are: Walter and family of Detroit, Michigan, Elvira Archer and family of Red Oak, Iowa, Edgar and family of Moberly, Missouri, Floyd and family of Red Oak, Iowa and Mrs. Georgia Jones of Detroit, Michigan. Besides these, Mrs. Derby is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson of St. Petersburg, Florida; Mrs. Mary Adams of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; three brothers: William, Edward and George Hornby, all of Pawtucket, Rhode, Island.
Other relatives are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Frazier and family, Mrs. and Mrs. Roy Derby and family all of Silver City; Mrs. Anna Elliott of Wilmar, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. John Greeno of Corning, California.
So ends the early life story of a little mother who slipped away to join her husband and life companion of nearly fifty years.
